Mumbai: The Uddhav Thackeray government issued a government resolution stating that all departments, local authorities, officers and employees to mandatorily use Marathi in official business.
"If the officers fail to use Marathi in their confidential report, they won't be entitled to get annual increment," the order read.
According to the reports, the state government has instructed officers to use Marathi for official proceedings and has even directed the department heads to initiate strict action against the employees found deliberately not using the language in their official communication.
The announcement comes after the state government noticed that many departments still issue circulars and government notices in English language. It was also observed that most of the websites are also in English.
The state government had during lockdown noted that the instructions issued by them are in English and there were complaints that common people were facing difficulties in understanding them.
