Nawab Malik wonders if NCB knows difference between marijuana and tobacco

Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister of Minorities and spokesperson of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Nawab Malik is the latest to attack Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), which is facing sharp criticism over its handling of Aryan Khan's involvement in cruise-on-drugs case. Malik criticised NCB asking whether they know the difference between marijuana and tobacco.

The NCP leader came up with stern remarks during a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday alleging that the central agency's action against his son-in-law Sameer Khan was false and it was intended to target his son-in-law. Khan was arrested on January 13 in connection with a drugs case.

Meanwhile, a court in Mumbai granted bail to Sameer Khan on Thursday. Sameer Khan and two other accused, Rahila Furniturewala and Karan Sejnani, were charged under Sections 8 (c), 20 (b) (c), 27A, 27, 28 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act). Special NDPS Court Judge A.A. Joglekar was presented with a chemical analysis report of the items seized from Sameer Khan. Of these, 11 out of 18 samples were found as not cannabis.

Earlier, Sameer Khan's bail application was rejected on the ground that an investigation was underway.

In the press conference, Malik said that the NCB did not find any marijuana in Khan's house during the raid. Some herbal tobacco products have been discovered and are still being sold online. Further, he said that the NCB did not file charge sheet in this case. They cited the requirement of three and a half months for filing charge sheet.

Malik also said that his son-in-law Sameer Khan will file a petition in the Mumbai High Court. He also alleged that the NCB received tip-off, including photos from a particular number which also disseminated the same to media.

He also said that he has been receiving death threats on his number and he would lodge a complaint with the Home Ministry. After getting information about Mallik getting threatening calls, Nawab Mallik's security has been beefed up and provided Y-plus security.
