Mumbai's COVID patients with mild symptoms to be treated in 5-star hotels

Amid the resurgence in the number of Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, the BMC has decided to treat the Covid patients having mild symptoms in five-star hotels.

Mumbai:Amid the resurgence in the number of Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday decided to treat COVID patients with mild symptoms in five-star hotels.

Considering the shortage of hospital beds in Mumbai, the municipality has tied up with two hotels, InterContinental Hotel at Marine Drive and Trident Hotel at BKC, and the patients in these two hotels will be treated in Bombay Hospital and HN Reliance Hospital, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said.

Chahal said, "Patients having severe health condition will be treated in hospitals whereas patients with mild COVID symptoms will be treated in hotels."

The BMC has arranged 250 beds in Jaslok, a private hospital, which also includes 40 ICU beds. Another 1,500 beds have been arranged in the Jumbo COVID Centre at NESCO in Goregaon. SevenHills Hospital at Andheri Marol will have 30 ICU beds, Chahal said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 28,307 new COVID-19 cases, 31,624 discharges and 281 deaths on Wednesday. Currently, there are 5,94,585 active cases in the state, according to Union Health Ministry.
