Mumbai cop dies hours after being discharged from Covid centre

A Mumbai cop who had contracted the deadly virus while processing the return of migrant workers, died hours after being discharged from corona centre.

Mumbai: A Mumbai Police constable succumbed to death merely hours after being discharged from a covid care centre in Worli, an official said.

"Deepak, who was posted at Bandra police station was working to ferry migrant workers in the district, meanwhile he tested positive for the deadly virus," a doctor said.

According to the reports, three of his colleagues also tested positive for the virus following which they were shifted to a covid centre at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI Dome), a facility for asymptomatic carriers of the virus.

Further, the doctor said no covid-19 test was required as the policeman recovered early and was an asymptomatic patient.

However, within four hours of returning home, he began to have difficulty breathing and succumbed to his physical ailment.

As per BMC's discharge policy, if a patient remains asymptomatic, he can be discharged after 10 days without a test.

"However, the cause of death may have been a heart attack, the investigation is underway," said a health officer from the Municipal Corporation.
