900-year-old temple holds Ganapati celebrations in Maharashtra

Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in the 900-year-old temple of Kasaba Beed village in Kolhapur. Here, the idol of Shilahar Ganapati carved in a single stone which is about five feet high and four feet wide.

Kolhapur (Maharashtra): The 900-year-old Ganapati at the Kasaba Beed village of Kolhapur witnessed a grand celebration on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Kasba Beed is a small village situated at the confluence of Tulshi and Bhogawati rivers in Karveer taluka of Kolhapur.

The village has a long history and is said to have been inhabited by King Gandaraditya of the Shilahar dynasty 900 years ago.

References to this are found in many texts. In the Centre of this village, there is a magnificent temple of Lord Shiva and at the entrance of this temple, there is also a small temple of lord Ganesha.

It is said that Shilahar king Gandaraditya was a Ganesha devotee and that is why he built a Ganapati temple in the village.

Even today, along with Shilahar Ganpati temple, some other temples can be seen in the village.

The idol of Shilahar Ganapati temple is carved in a single stone and is about five feet high and four feet wide. The locals have great faith in this Bappa and devotees from all over Maharashtra come here to pay respect.

Behind this Ganapati temple, there is also a magnificent and beautiful temple of Lord Mahadev which is 900 years old.

The construction of this temple is Hemadpanthi and it is an excellent example of architecture.

Various inscriptions, amulets and ancient idols are found in the temple's premises. Hundreds of amulets and idols have been found in the village so far.
