Bhandara (Maharashtra): A sexagenarian father dumped the body of his son, who had allegedly committed suicide on the funeral ground, as he did not have money for conducting his last rites, police said on Tuesday.

According to Bhandara police, Praveen Vijay Meshram (30) of Varathi village in Mohadi taluka of Maharashtra's Bhandara district was working as an auto-rickshaw driver. Praveen allegedly committed on June 29 by hanging from a ceiling fan.

He had been working as an auto-rickshaw driver for the past 10 years and survived by, wife, small daughter and parents.

Praveen was reportedly facing a financial crisis and wasn't able to earn due to the lockdown. He had felt the pinch ever since the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus was enforced across the country, police sources said.

Following this, Praveen decided to sell vegetables to survive as their family of five was completely dependent on him. Two days later, he hung himself from a ceiling fan in his own home.

After this incident, Praveen's father was in a state of shock and had no money for his son's last rites. Hence he disposed of the body by dumping it on the funeral ground, police sources added.
