Maharashtra: Nature lovers feel joyous as 'Indian Bullfrog' spotted in Melghat

Indian Bull Frog, the largest species of frog, was spotted jumping into water puddles in Melghat after the fresh spell of rains. These frogs are illegally sold and are in huge demand in Goa and the Western Ghats.

Amravati (Maharashtra):The forests of Melghat Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra's Amravati welcomed 'Indian Bullfrog' this year after the first showers of rain. Melghat, popular to home numerous species of wild animals and birds, has made nature lovers overjoyed this time after the largest species of frog was spotted jumping into water puddles.

Scientifically known as Hoplobatrachus tigerinus, the Indian Bullfrog or Golden Frog is a widespread invasive species. The frog does not stay in water for a long time and spends most of its time hiding and feeding in surrounding vegetation.

These frogs are illegally sold in the Western Ghats and they are in huge demand in Goa as well.

Each year a large number of tourists flock in Melghat to explore the scenic beauty of the paradise of Vidarbha. But the tiger reserve will miss its visitors in 2020 due to coronavirus induced lockdown which has completely banned tourism to contain the spread of deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
