Maharashtra government would not last long: BJP

BJP has said the Maharashtra government would not last long as differences among the Maha Vikas Aghadi parties were evident. It also said that Shiv Sena hurt it by breaking the long time political alliance.

New Delhi: Criticising its former ally Shiv Sena for "stabbing in the back" by breaking decades long political alliance, the BJP on Saturday said Maharashtra government would not last long as differences among the Maha Vikas Aghadi parties were more than visible.

Speaking to ETV Bharat here, BJP national spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal said the Shiv Sena stabbed the BJP in the back and its "unholy alliance" with the Congress and the NCP would not last long.

"The Shiv Sena must think what they have done. Their ideology and symbols of pride were being humiliated by parties they have formed government with," he said, adding that people of Maharashtra had given mandate for the BJP-Shiv Sena combine to form government with Devendra Fadnavis as its head.

On being asked if the saffron party would ever join hands again with the Shiv Sena, he said it's they who would have to think.

"They have betrayed us. They have stabbed us in the back. We are hurt," the BJP leader said.

Meanwhile, responding to BJP for its repeated statements that the MVA government will fall soon under its own weight due to internal contradictions, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also dared the BJP to topple his government.

''It is my challenge to BJP to topple the government. People are happy with the new government,'' he was quoted as saying by reports.
