Mumbai:Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, recommending that air passengers, who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, arriving in Mumbai can be exempted from the mandatory RT-PCR test. According to the current state government directives, any domestic passenger arriving in Maharashtra is required to carry a negative RT-PCR test report.
In his letter, Chahal stated that as the Covid vaccination drive has begun across the nation, most citizens who have taken both the doses of Covid vaccine have requested to exclude from the mandatory RT-PCR negative report on arrival.
"Many passengers take up the journey to Mumbai daily for working purposes and return to their places on the same day. Under such circumstances, conducting the RT-PCR tests 48 hours before commencing the journey becomes impossible. It has also been observed that Covid does not spread through vaccinated citizens," his letter read seeking exemption from the RT-PCR test for fully vaccinated domestic passengers.
