Earlier in September, the court had ordered Rane to demolish the illegal construction noting that it violated Floor Space Index (FSI) and Coastal Regional Zone (CRZ). The court ordered Rane to demolish the unauthorized construction himself within three months and if not, the Brihanmumbai Municipality Corporation (BMC) will demolish the illegal construction.
The Supreme Court in September dismissed a plea challenging the Bombay High Court verdict that directed the Mumbai civic body to demolish the unauthorized construction at Rane's bungalow 'Adhish'. The top court noted there was a violation of the Floor Space Index and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. The floor space index (FSI) is the maximum permissible floor area that can be built on a particular plot or/piece of land.
