Governor will resign if he has any self-respect: Pawar

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar hits out at Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari over his letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray. He said that Governor must resign if he has any self-respect.

Osmanabad: NCP President Sharad Pawar launched a sharp attack on Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari by saying that even if there is a little bit of self-respect left, the Governor will decide whether to stay in the post or not.

Pawar is on a tour of Osmanabad district and during a press conference on Monday, he suggested that Koshyari should resign now.

The statement comes after Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed displeasure over the inappropriate language used by the Governor in his letter addressing to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Earlier, Governor Koshyari had written a controversial letter to Thackeray following which he received a strong reply from the CM.

The Governor had written a letter to the Maharashtra Chief Minister on the issue of closure of temples and demanded to reopen temples in Maharashtra by implementing the COVID guidelines. In the letter, he also criticised Thackeray over the issue of Hindutva.

Slamming the Governor for his letter, Thackeray gave a strong reply by saying that his Hindutva does not need Koshiyari's certificate.

The issue has sparked ire across the nation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah also admitting that Koshiyari had made a mistake.

Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari could have used his words in a better way, said Amit Shah.

Meanwhile, giving his reaction over the incident, NCP Chief Pawar said that if Koshyari has any self-esteem, he will resign as governor.

"The language used by Koshiyari does not enhance the prestige of the governor, I have seen many governors but no one has made such a statement ever," Pawar said.
