Pune:A case has been registered against actress Payal Rohatgi at Shivajinagar police station in Pune for making offensive statements against former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Gandhi family.
The complaint was lodged by Sangeeta Tiwari, general secretary of the Congress party's city district committee. Tiwari's complaint was against defamatory video about Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Gandhi family and the Congress Party, uploaded on social media. She has been accused of trying to create a rift between communities through this medium.

The complaint initially lodged at the Cyber Police Station was forwarded to Shivajinagar Police Station. Following which, Shivajinagar police registered a case against Payal Rohatgi and an unidentified person who made the video. The case was registered under Indian Penal Code 153A, 500, 505/2, 34.
Assistant Inspector Mane is further investigating the matter. Earlier, Payal Rohatgi had posted offensive posts on Facebook about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Mahatma Gandhi, drawing flak.
In May 2019, she took a dig at social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy calling him a 'traitor'. She tweeted a video on Twitter titled 'Truth Behind Sati Pratha in India' lashing out at Raja Ram for abolishing the evil practice.
The actress had hit headlines asking for a change in the names of streets named after Mughal emperors in India. Rohtagi also raged controversy by questioning filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of the authenticity of his complaint of an anonymous social media account who threatened his daughter with rape.
