Mumbai: Maharashtra government on Friday announced that it will not conduct the degree exams of final year university students in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

The Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant has decided that the examinations will be made optional.

Final year students who only want to take a degree without taking the exam will be given a degree and for the students who want to take up the exams can do so after the situation is under control.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the state government's emergency management committee, Samant said.

Samant has taken two different decisions for students pursuing vocational, non-vocational education in the state.

Samant clarified that no traditional courses i.e. non-professional courses will be examined. On the other hand, the subject is made optional for students who wish to appear for the exam. Each student will have to write an affidavit.

The condition for this has been laid down in it. He also clarified that examinations for courses like engineering, pharmacy, hotel management, MBA, etc., including teaching physiology, cannot be conducted.
