Maharashtra DyCM urges coastal residents to stay indoors
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday urged people from the states coastal belt to remain in safer places in view of the cyclonic storm Nisarga, which is likely to make landfall in the afternoon.
Pawar said people should not step outside home till the intensity of the storm fades.
People from Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts should remain in safer places, considering the landfall cyclonic storm Nisarga is set to make near Alibaug from Arabian sea, a statement quoted Pawar as saying.
The administration is taking complete care to ensure there is no loss of life due to the cyclone, said Pawar, who is also the state's finance minister
Lifeguards, police, fire brigade and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in parts of the coastal areas, he said.

Many special trains for Mumbai rescheduled

Flight services affected due to incoming Cyclone
Only 19 flights, including 11 departures and eight arrivals, will be operated from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Wednesday, in the wake of Cyclone Nisarga.
According to GVK MIAL, which manages the CSMIA, the aforementioned flights will be operated by five airlines, including Air Asia India, Air India, IndiGo, GoAir, and SpiceJet.
The authority also cautioned passengers about probable changes in the schedule of the flights due to the cyclone and urged them to check with their respective airliners before leaving for the airport.
Earlier, IndiGo Airline had on Tuesday cancelled 17 flights to and from Mumbai following the severe cyclonic storm in Maharashtra and said that it will operate only three flights from Mumbai today.

Central Railway reschedules eight special trains for Mumbai area
Considering the impending threat posed by Cyclone Nisarga, which is likely to hit Mumbai on June 3, the Central Railways rescheduled eight trains which were supposed to arrive or depart from the state capital on Wednesday.
The timings of 02542 LTT-Gorakhpur, 06345 LTT-Thiruvananthapuram, 01061 LTT-Darbhanga, 01071 LTT-Varanasi, 01019 CSMT-Bhubaneshwar special trains which were scheduled to leave Mumbai area during daytime were changed to night, according to the Central Railways.
Similarly, special trains from Patna, Varanasi, and Thiruvananthapuram, which were scheduled to reach during the daytime were regulated and will now arrive in Mumbai behind schedule.
More than 10 teams of NDRF had been deployed in Maharashtra till Tuesday afternoon and five more teams were en route for taking part in the ongoing operations in wake of Cyclone Nisarga.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that the tropical storm Nisarga, which is heading towards Gujarat and Maharashtra, is likely to intensify into a "severe cyclonic storm" in the next 24 hours and is expected to make landfall close to Mumbai on June 3.

Cyclone Nisarga is within a radius of 300 kilometers from Mumbai, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
"Cyclone Nisarga is about 250 km South-SouthWest of Alibag and about 290 km South-SouthWest of Mumbai at 11:30 pm IST of June 2, 2020," according to a tweet by the official handle of the IMD.
The weather forecasting agency further said that the current wind speed of cyclone is about 75-85 kilometers per hour, gusting to 95 and will further increase to "100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph during next 12 hours."
It also said that the heavy rainfall which started over districts of south coastal Maharashtra is likely to intensify in the coming 12 hours. In view of impending cyclone Nisarga, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had issued prohibitory orders restricting any presence or movement of persons in public places along the coast on Tuesday.
The prohibitory orders will remain in effect from midnight of Tuesday to 12 noon Wednesday, as per the statement.

Mumbai: According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Nisarga, Mumbai's first in over 100 years, is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm at around 5:30 am before making impact near Alibag in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The storm, which is heading towards the COVID stricken state, is gathering wind speed of 110 km per hour as is likely to touch 120 kmph. Cyclone Nisarga is now moving north-northeastwards and will cross north Maharashtra and adjoining south Gujarat coast today afternoon.
Over 30 NDRF teams have been deployed and heavy rainfall has started in Maharashtra. Fishermen have returned from the sea as they have been cautioned by the authorities not to venture out at sea, in view of impending adverse weather.
According to reports, at least 93 life guards, rescue boats, jet keys and 150 flood rescue personnel of the fire brigade have been deployed at six intersections in Mumbai with the necessary equipment to tackle impending cyclonic conditions.
