Covid-19: Masjid in Dadar steps in, provides free oxygen to Mumbai patients

Amid an acute shortage of oxygen in hospitals across India, a masjid in Mumbai's Dadar area is offering free oxygen for the patients affected by the virus. Mumbai is one of the worst-hit cities in India by Covid-19. On Wednesday, Mumbai recorded 7,684 new cases of Covid-19.

Mumbai: Due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the city, a masjid in Mumbai's Phool Galli in Dadar area is offering free oxygen for the patients affected by the virus.

The staff running this South Mumbai's Dawood Mansoori Masjid said that since the Covid situation in the city is very grim and most families are complaining of lack of oxygen, that is why they are offering it free of cost for those who cannot afford it.

The mosque administration has also appealed the locals to help each other in these times. It has also asked people if they have a free oxygen cylinder at home, they should help others who need it and have to wait for hours to get the same.

Mumbai city has a considerable Muslim population and accordingly, the numbers of mosques in Muslim-majority areas are also significant. As the Phool Galli mosque started the free oxygen initiative, other mosques are also stepping up to provide free oxygen and other services.

Mumbai is one of the worst-hit cities in India by Covid-19. On Wednesday, Mumbai recorded 7,684 new cases of Covid-19. With this, the number of active cases in the city has jumped to 84,743.
