Ajit Pawar rules out Centre's farm laws in Maharashtra

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar assured the farmers that the three farm laws approved by the Central government will not be implemented in the state.

Nashik: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the three farm laws approved by the Central government will not be implemented in Maharashtra. During his Nashik tour, Pawar addressed the public at the groundbreaking ceremony of various development works at Pimpri on Thursday. He also assured that the Maharashtra government will take a decision in the interest of the farmers and will not take any step which might hurt their sentiments.

Launching a scathing attack on the Central government, Pawar said that agitated farmers have been protesting against the new farm laws on Delhi borders for the past seven months, but the Centre paid no heed to their demands. Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has always supported farmers and resolved their problems in every possible way. The farm laws will be approved only if they benefit the farmers and for this purpose, proper discussions will be held soon, Pawar said.

In this context, five meetings have been held so far to decide on the implementation of the agriculture bill, he added. Talking about the Covid situation in the state, Pawar said that the Maharashtra government is working towards providing maximum relief to its people amid the pandemic. "Ahead of the third wave of Covid-19, the state administration is making vigilant preparations. The state government is trying to contain the spread of Covid infection along with ensuring the development of its people," Pawar stated.

Talking about the low disbursement of crop loans, he said that in the month of June only 35 per cent of loans were disbursed following which farmers are not getting loans according to their requirement and pressure on banks have mounted which is resulting in forced debt recovery, land auction. Ajit Pawar said that he will be holding a meeting on this issue as well to take stock of the situation.
