Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday reserved its judgement on the petition of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh seeking quashing of case against him filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court has also directed the CBI to submit its two-month investigation report before it.

The division bench of Justice Sambhaji Shinde and Justice Nizam Uddin Jamadar has been hearing the petition filed by Deshmukh against the Central agency’s probe for the past few days. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had filed criminal public interest litigation seeking a CBI probe against Deshmukh, who he claimed asked police officers, including suspended cop Sachin Waze, to extort Rs 100 crore from bars and restaurants. However, the minister denied any wrongdoing.

After a Bombay High Court order, the CBI started a preliminary enquiry into the allegations of corruption charges levelled against Deshmukh and then registered an FIR on April 21. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing the allegations against Deshmukh, also raided his properties in Mumbai and Nagpur. The probe agency also interrogated Deshmukh's private secretary in connection with the case.
