Bombay HC judges to get Rs 50,000 annually to buy spectacles

The Uddhav Thackeray led Maharashtra government, through a government resolution, has declared a sanction of Rs 50,000 each annually to the Judges of the Bombay High Court for the purpose of buying spectacles.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has approved payment of Rs 50,000 per year to every judge of the Bombay High Court for buying spectacles, as per a government resolution (GR).

According to the GR of the states law and judiciary department, the decision covers judges, their spouses and family members dependent on them.

In its government resolution dated July 10, the government of Maharashtra has approved the sanction of Rs 50,000 for each judge of the Bombay High Court for the specified purpose of buying spectacles.

The resolution of the State's Department of Law and Justice states that this yearly allowance for the Judges would cover their spouses and dependents as well.

The Bombay High Court currently has 67 sitting judges which translates into an annual expense of Rs 33.5 lakh on the spectacle allowance.
