AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal makes flurry of pre-poll promises in Goa

Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that his party will reserve 80 per cent jobs, including in the private sector, for locals if voted to power after winning the upcoming Goa Assembly elections. He also assured a monthly remuneration of Rs 5,000 to the families dependent on mining and tourism industries till these two sectors return to normalcy. Speaking to the reporters in Mapusa, Arvind Kejriwal said that Rs 3000 will be provided to unemployed youth till they get a job.

There is currently a BJP government in Goa, where assembly elections are due in February next year. This is Kejriwal's second visit to Goa in the last two months. When he visited Goa for the first time in July, the then Delhi Chief Minister had assured people in Goa of free electricity up to 300 units per month if his party came to power. Kejriwal made another promise that a 'Skill University' would be set up in Goa on the lines of Delhi, where youth would be skilled and job-ready.

He said that the entire system of recruitment in the government sector would be made transparent and accountable by ending the existing practice of giving government jobs to MLAs or those close to influential leaders.

Referring to the 'doorstep delivery' initiative launched by the Pramod Sawant government, Kejriwal said a similar initiative has been implemented by the Delhi government. He said, 'As per our plan, government officials provide services to the doorsteps of the people. People do not need to step out of their homes. He said that Sawant is copying the initiative of the Delhi government, "Why do you need to choose the fake when you have the option of the real."

AAP did not get a single seat in the 2017 Goa Assembly elections. In the 40-member assembly, Congress got the maximum 17 seats while the BJP got 13 seats. To the surprise of Congress, the BJP formed the government in the state under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar in alliance with regional parties.
