Mumbai: A security guard at BMC’s KEM hospital died of COVID-19 this Tuesday. He was being treated at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Municipal General Hospital in Kandivali of Mumbai. Thus the death toll of BMC security guard due to COVID-19 rises to 7. He was tested COVID positive on June 11.
Megacity Mumbai has been the hotspot of Coronavirus. The city witnesses more than 1000 cases daily and has been in the red zone.
The reason behind maximum cases in Mumbai is its population and the congested lanes in the city. However, at some point it is impossible to maintain social distancing as the houses in some congested areas of the city are very small area wise.
Treatment on COVID-19 patients in the city is going on in civil, government and private hospitals. Security guards are deployed in BMC offices, head offices, dams supplying water to the city, Purification projects, etc.
As per the information from BMC, nearly 1500 security guards are at BMC’s disposal. Out of these 1500, 114 security guards are infected with the coronavirus. Out of them, 36 are being treated in hospitals, 45 security guards are home quarantined and some are in quarantine centre. 26 security guards are discharged from the hospital. But 7 have died due to the deadly disease.
BMC employees, doctors, nurses, health workers being the frontline workers their job is inevitable. To add more it is the spirit of Mumbaikars to serve the city come what may and thus despite being vulnerable to the disease due to certain conditions like age, comorbidity they fulfil their duty diligently.
