Death of Covid patients blamed on 'negligence'

Four people died at the privately-run Vedanta COVID Hospital at Varatkanagar in Thane on Monday. After family members alleged medical negligence to be the reason for their deaths, District Collector Rajesh Narvekar ordered an inquiry into the case.

Thane (Maharashtra): Thane/Barshi: Four persons in a private Covid hospital in Thane and two patients at cancer hospital in Barshi died on Monday morning due to insufficient oxygen supply.

Relatives of the patients who were admitted in Vedanta hospital in Vartaknagar in Thane accused the hospital of carelessness. Bharatiya Janata Party district president MLA Niranjan Davkhare also visited the hospital. He appealed to the administration to conduct an enquiry into the matter and take action against those responsible for the incident.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Students Wing district president Sandip Pachange too held the hospital responsible for the deaths. He said if the oxygen supply was over in the morning the hospital should have informed the Thane Municipal Corporation.

Police tightened the security as relatives and political activists gathered in front of the hospital. The collector has ordered a probe into the matter. Maharashtra Minister for Housing Jitendra Avhad also reached the hospital to review the situation. He ordered the municipal corporation to conduct an enquiry.

Relatives question sudden death

The relatives raised question on the sudden death of the patients while claiming that the patients were doing well till the earlier day. How can four patients die all of a sudden, they asked. They blamed the hospital of apathy.

Two patients die in Barshi, hospital denies charges

Barshi: Relatives of the two patients who died at cancer hospital in Barshi said deaths were due to lack of oxygen. They said the patients did not get enough oxygen since Monday morning which led to their death. Ashrubai Laxman Sangde (65) from Chumb village in Barshi taluka and Janabai Bandgar (70) from Solapur died at the hospital.

However, hospital refuted the charges. Administrative officer of the hospital Bansilal Shukla stated that due to age and serious health condition the patients did not respond to treatment. They were suffering from other ailments and age factor mattered, he said.
