Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad): A 13-year-old boy died after his throat was severely slit when the door of the elevator closed while he was playing in Jinx area in Aurangabad. The boy died on the spot and his body has been sent for postmortem.
The boy, Saqib Siddiqui's parents had recently gone to Hyderabad and so he was staying with his grandparents, who live near Hayat Hospital in Katkat Gate area. The incident took place at around 9:30 pm on Sunday when Saqib was playing on the third floor of the building, police said. He went inside the lift and pressed a button playfully. While he was looking outside the elevator, the door suddenly closed and his throat got stuck, police said.
The boy started screaming and all the residents rushed to the third floor. Neighbours said Saqib was bleeding profusely and by the time he was released there was a deep cut on his throat.

Ashok Bhandari, Inspector of Jinsi Police Station said as soon as they were informed about the incident, he along with his team rushed to the spot. Police said the boy had succumbed to his injuries immediately after the incident and his body was sent to Ghati Hospital for post-mortem. Saqib's father owns a tours and travels business and his parents had gone to Hyderabad for some business-related work, police said.
According to experts children should never be allowed to play inside the elevator. They should be taught proper lift etiquette of not pressing random buttons and to watch their steps when they enter or exit elevators, an expert said. They should also prevent their children from keeping their hands on the elevator door when it slides open. It is advisable that children are always accompanied by elders when they use elevators.
