Rahul Gandhi pauses his address during 'Azaan'

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday stopped his speech during his public rally in Gwalior-Chambal region after an 'Azaan' was sounded from a nearby mosque. Rahul halted his speech as soon as he heard the 'Azaan' and thereafter, resumed his speech when the prayer call was over.

Gwalior: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday stopped his public address in the middle after an 'Azaan' (call for Islamic Prayer) was sounded from a nearby mosque.

While addressing a rally in Chambal-Gwalior region, Rahul halted his speech as soon as he heard the 'Azaan' and thereafter, resumed his address after the call for prayer was over.

This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has showed a gesture of respect for Azaan during a public rally.

On April 27, the Congress chief had stopped his speech briefly and waited till it was over while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi.

Traditionally, Azaan is called out five times in a day by a muezzin, who summons the faithful for mandatory worship.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi said the PM gives his speeches by reading from the teleprompter.

"Modi used to talk about development and eradicating unemployment. What happened to these promises now?' he said.

Urging people to vote for his party, he said, "If Congress comes to power, Gwalior will once again become an industrial hub."
