Madhya Pradesh continues to reel under floodwater

Madhya Pradesh has witnessed unprecedented floods over the past few days leaving acres of farmland inundated. To keep water levels in check, sluice gates of Bhadbada dam were opened up to release 53 million cubic feet of water.

Madhya Pradesh: Incessant rains have triggered flooding in several parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Crops standing in low-lying fields have reached the verge of collapse, due to heavy rains.

Many farms in Malhargarh, Sitamau, Mandsaur tehsils are facing the wrath of rain for the last three days.

Soybeans and urad, among other crops, have started rotting following continuous immersion in water.

Here is the overview of some of the districts of MP affected by flood-

Mandsaur: According to administrative data, the entire Mandsaur district has received 38 inches of rain so far.

The farmers of the district say that the government should compensate for the loss of crops.

However, the officials of the revenue department in the district are still denying any damage to the crops.

Bhopal: To keep water levels in check, sluice gates of Bhadbada dam were opened on Saturday after the area witnessed heavy rainfall over the past few days.

Two of the 11 gates of Bhadbhada have been opened. A large number of residents of Bhopal arrived to see this view.

The dam, situated near Bhopal on Kalisot River, had reached its maximum capacity at 1666.80 feet due to which authorities decided to release 53 million cubic feet of water to maintain the water levels.

Present at the spot, Mayor Alok Sharma said, "As per Standard Operating Procedure, the gates are opened when the tank reaches its maximum capacity at 1666.80 feet. We will open it for two and a half hours so that we are able to release 53 million cubic feet water."

Raison: The villagers are still at risk in Raison's Sakatpur village, with most of the rivers being swollen following the deluge.

Due to which the road connectivity from one village to another has been lost.

With the lack of bridges and culverts on the river drains, the villagers have to resort to the rope to travel from one village to another.

Betul: The situation has become worse in Betul.

The children risk their life and travel 3 kilometres to reach the school.

Residents of Gorkhidhana village are also not having access to proper healthcare.

The locals have repeatedly asked the administration to build a bridge, but the responsible officials have not paid any attention to it yet.

Ratlam:In Ratlam district, due to heavy rains, the reservoir, rivers and drains are all in full spate.

The water level of Narmada is increasing rapidly, while the villages located around the river have been transformed into islands.
