Tribal girl thrashed for loving Dalit youth in MP

The number of honour crimes is on the rise and in yet another incident, a tribal girl was thrashed with sticks and subsequently beaten up over an alleged love affair. According to officials, the village sarpanch was also allegedly involved in the act.

Bhopal: Yet another episode of 'honour' crime was reported on Sunday, when a tribal girl was thrashed by her kin, for allegedly loving a youth from a Dalit community in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district.

In a video, which went viral, the girl was seen being beaten up by her kin, including her brother in a tribal-dominated village.

Following the incident, the district police arrested seven people in connection with the crime and a case was registered.

According to officials, the village sarpanch was also allegedly involved in the act.

Based on reports, the girl was in love with a Dalit youth of her own village and the villagers filed a complaint against the girl, when she eloped with her love.

Subsequently, they were found and handed over to their respective families.

The kin of the young tribal girl started pressurising her to marry a boy from their own community. This incident created tension between the girl and her kin, which led to the attack, the probe revealed.
