Ujjain:The Madhya Pradesh government has ordered a probe by a three-member team led by the Additional Chief Secretary Home Rajesh Rajora after the death of 16 labourers in Ujjain. He would be assisted by Additional Director General (ADG) SK Jha and DIG Ratlam Range Sushant Saxena.

Fourteen persons have died at Ujjain after drinking spurious liquor, a top official said on Thursday.

Along with Ujjain Collector, top officials visited the place where the liquor was manufactured after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered a high- level probe.

"If such a thing is being sold elsewhere, police should find out and prosecute the offenders severely," Chouhan said.

"People selling poisonous substances are enemies of society. They should be punished severely. Efforts should be made to send such people to the gallows," he added.

The victims were mostly beggars or poor labourers and lived in areas falling under three police stations- Kharakuwa, Jeevajiganj and Mahakal, Ujjain Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rupesh Dwivedi said.
