MP: Patient dies after ward boy removes oxygen support

A Covid patient died at Shivpuri district hospital allegedly after a ward boy removed oxygen support. The hospital authorities dismissed the allegations and claimed that the patients who died was serious and there was no shortage of oxygen.

Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): A Covid-19 infected man, who was admitted to the COVID ward of the Shivpuri district hospital died within two days of admission to the hospital after the ward boy removed the oxygen support.

The family members alleged that oxygen support to teacher Surendra Sharma on Tuesday night was removed due to which he died of breathlessness.

The hospital authorities dismissed the allegations and claimed that the patient who died was serious and there was no shortage of oxygen.

The Superintendent of the hospital, Dr KB Verma, said that the patient's oxygen support was not removed.

However, upon the allegations by the family, the CCTV footage was retrieved.

The CCTV footage clearly showed the ward boy removing the oxygen support of the deceased patient. Upon removal of the support, the patient started experiencing breathlessness.

The hospital administration after seeing the CCTV footage changed the stance and said that the patient did not need oxygen support and at the behest of the nurse, the ward boy pulled out the oxygen concentrator for another patient.

The change of stance of the hospital management not only made the case suspicious but also raised questions about the hospital administration.

Anguished at the demise, the family of the deceased urged for a probe in the matter following which Dr Akshay Nigam, Dean of the Medical College, ordered to constitute a team to investigate the matter.

Inquiry ordered

The team has been asked to submit the report within 48 hours following which appropriate action will be taken.

After the incident, Collector Akshay Kumar Singh, SP Rajesh Singh Chandel reached the spot.
