MP flood: NDRF back in action, airlifts 200 people from Guna district

NDRF has airlifted over 200 people since Friday night from the flood-affected Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, while over 300 people have still been stuck in Soda village due to flood in the area.

Guna: NDRF has airlifted over 200 people since Friday night from the flood-affected Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, while over 300 people have still been stuck in Soda village due to flood in the area. Four people from different areas in the district have lost their lives in the havoc so far.

NDRF team has swung into action after Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia seeks help from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Heavy rainfall for the past week has created an island-like situation in the state. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Central Madhya Pradesh. While heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tikamgarh, Niwari, Vidisha, Shivpuri, Datia, Sheopurkala, Guna and Ashoknagar districts in the next 24 hours.

Earlier on Saturday, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that 8,832 people have been rescued from the flood-affected parts of the state, while 29,280 others have been shifted to safer places from these areas so far.

He made the statement while addressing the 'Anna Utsav' programme in the morning. State officials have earlier said that Gwalior and Chambal divisions in north Madhya Pradesh have been hit hard by rains over the last few days and at least 12 persons have died till now.

In a series of tweets earlier, the chief minister said that about 40 people were rescued from three flood-hit districts of the state on Saturday morning. I took a stock of the flood situation and the ongoing rescue operation this morning in Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha districts. Rescue operation of IAF resumed this morning. The teams of SDRF and NDRF are also working since night to rescue the people trapped in villages, Chouhan tweeted.
