Morena:A BJP leader allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a river in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Naresh Gupta was the former BJP general secretary from Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.
As per reports, police reached the spot after locals alerted them that a two-wheeler and a suicide note is lying at Chambal river bridge unattended. Following which, the police informed the family of the deceased about the incident.
As per information received, rescue operation is being carried out to recover the dead body but due to the presence of crocodiles and other aquatic animals, local divers are facing a lot of trouble to complete the process.
"He was suffering from cancer for the past one year and because of which, he was under a lot of stress. On Tuesday, he went to see a doctor in Gwalior and the doctor told him that cancer has spread from the part of the body where it started to other parts of the body," said Rajesh Gupta, who is the brother of the deceased.
"Although, he reached home in the evening but he was depressed," he added.
According to police, 50-year-old Naresh Gupta took the step hours after consulting the doctor regarding his year long ailment. He left from home around 11.30 pm when everybody in the house was asleep and took the extreme step.
The rescue operation is underway and investigation into matter has been initiated, said police.
