Goa Guv, CM condole death of Lalji Tandon

Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday condoled the death of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon.

In a condolence message, Malik said that Tandon was one of the senior-most BJP leaders and a "great administrator, polite and very friendly".

"When I relinquished the office as Governor of Bihar, it was Lalji Tandon who took over. During his tenure in Bihar, he worked tirelessly for the education sector. He served as a Minister in Uttar Pradesh for a long time where he worked for the welfare of the people. He had a very close association with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was in charge of his election cell," Malik recalled.

Sawant said: "Saddened to learn about the passing away of Madhya Pradesh Governor and senior BJP leader Lalji Tondon. His immense contribution to public life will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family in this hour of grief."

UP CM Yogi Adityanath declares holiday as a mark of respect to Governor Lalji Tandon

The Yogi Adityanath government has declared a holiday on Tuesday as a mark of respect to Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon who passed away in the morning. The order was issued by state Chief Secretary R. K. Tiwari when half the day was already over.

The state government, meanwhile, has announced a three-day mourning for Tandon. The national flag will fly at half-mast during this period and all government programmes have been cancelled.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday condoled the death of state governor Lalji Tandon, saying he will always be remembered for his contribution towards the nation's progress.

Expressing grief over his death, Chouhan, in a series of tweets, said, As the governor of Madhya Pradesh, he always inspired us to follow the path of goodness. He will be remembered for his contribution in the progress of the nation. Though, he is no more with us, he will be in our memories forever."

"He guided all of us for a long time and served the nation and the people by presenting an amazing example. He also played an important role in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, he said.

Chouhan will be going to Lucknow to attend the last rites of Tandon.

'Sister' Mayawati condoles Lalji Tandon's death

BSP president Mayawati on Tuesday condoled the demise of Madhya Pradesh governor Lalji Tandon, saying he was a very cultured and social person.

Tandon died at a hospital here early Tuesday morning. He was 85.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief extended her condolences to the bereaved family.

It was in August 2003, when Mayawati as the then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had tied 'Rakhi' on the occasion of 'Raksha Bandhan' to Tandon, who was then the Union housing and urban development minister.

Bhopal:Condoling the death of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon (85), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he played a key role in strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh;

"Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society. He played a key role in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He made a mark as an effective administrator, always giving importance of public welfare. Anguished by his passing away," he wrote on Twitter.

In another tweet, PM Modi wrote "Shri Lalji Tandon was well-versed with constitutional matters. He enjoyed a long and close association with beloved Atal Ji. In this hour of grief, my condolences to the family and well-wishers of Shri Tandon. Om Shanti."

Tandon passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. His son and UP minister Ashutosh Tandon confirmed the news.

"Babuji nahi rahe,"his tweet read in Hindi.

Lalji Tandon was admitted to the Medanta hospital on June 13 after he complained of urinary problem and fever. He, thereafter, developed complications in liver and kidney and even underwent a surgical procedure. He was put on ventilator later.

Born on April 12, 1935, Tandon is survived by his wife Krishna Tandon and three sons.
