What's next for Congress in Madhya Pradesh

Is Congress marking its return with young leaders or do the recent results sound the death knell for the party in Madhya Pradesh?

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): After the huge defeat of Congress Party in the recent Bihar elections and by-elections in various states, questions are again being raised on the credibility of the Congress party in Indian politics. The Congress has also suffered a bitter defeat in the Madhya Pradesh by-elections. Whereas in the assembly elections held just two years ago, the Congress party emerged as the largest party by holding the baton of power. However, due to betrayals by its own members, the Congress had to be ousted from power and in such a situation, party workers, leaders and Congress supporters are worried about the future of Congress party in Madhya Pradesh.

15 years of BJP

Shivraj Singh Chauhan was the state's chief minister for 13 uninterrupted years till 2018. Congress returned to power in the state in 2018. But when the 15-month-old Congress government collapsed, Shivraj Singh Chauhan was made the CM.

During his first term in office, Shivraj Singh created the image of a leader of the masses. The advantage of this manifested in 2008 when the BJP again formed the government. Shivraj Singh, who is proficient in communicating closely with the public, gave BJP a resounding victory in the state in 2013. But after 2013, even questions were raised on Shivraj Singh's style and announcements.

Congress lacks leaders

Earlier, Congress used to win 48- 60 seats in the assembly, but in 2018 it made its victory on 114 seats. However, the second line of the Congress party leaders including Jeetu Patwari, Umang Singhar, Meenakshi Natarajan is considered 'weaker leaders'. Among the 'celebrity sons' are Digvijay Singh's son Jayawardhan Singh and Kamal Nath's son Nakul Nath. But the Congress needs to groom them.
