FIR against Netflix officials in Reva for controversial scene in web series

An FIR was registered in Madhya Pradesh today against two officials of streaming platform Netflix for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through its web series "A Suitable Boy" which showed kissing scenes allegedly on the campus of a temple.

Reva (Madhya Pradesh): An FIR has been filed on Tuesday in Madhya Pradesh's Reva against two executives of OTT (Over-the-top) platform Netflix for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through its web series 'A Suitable Boy'.

According to sources, the case has been filed by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national secretary Gaurav Tiwari against Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content (Netflix) and Ambika Khurana, Director, Public Policies (Netflix) for showing a kissing scene in temple premises.

"A Suitable Boy" was released on an OTT media platform and kissing scenes were filmed inside a temple with bhajans being sung in the background. I consider it objectionable. I think this hurt feeling of Hindus, FIR read.

Love jihad is being promoted through the film as a Hindu heroine's love affair with the Muslim hero is depicted in the temple courtyard which is condemnable, Tiwari said in his FIR.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Gaurav Tiwari, an FIR is being registered under section 295 (A) (malicious acts to outrage and insulting the religious feelings and beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in Rewa against Netflix officials, sources said.
