Bhind: The driver of a van drowned to death while two others were rescued after the vehicle plunged into the Gauri Sarovar lake in Bhind Madhya Pradesh on Monday night, officials said. It is said that the three men were drunk at the time the mishap took place. Officials said that the accident took place while the vehicle was leaving the petrol pump located on the banks of the Gauri Sarovar.
The driver of the van, who was in an intoxicated state at the time, lost control over the vehicle, which plunged into the lake. Soon after the accident, the passersby launched a rescue operation to save the three men. In the meantime, the locals informed the police after which a team of police and SDRF was rushed to the spot for a rescue operation.

In the ensuing operation, the team managed to rescue two men in the van. However, the driver of the van died in the accident, a police official said. He has been identified as Rahul Johri. The two survivors have been shifted to the hospital where the condition of one of them is said to be critical. A police official said that the three travelers were intoxicated at the time of the accident due to which the driver lost control over the vehicle leading to the accident.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The incident has been caught on camera. In the purported CCTV footage, the van can be seen leaving the petrol pump after which it accelerates and plunges into the lake across the road. The locals have attributed the mishap to lack of fencing around the lake.
On the day of Shivratri in the year 2020, a luxury car full of devotees fell into Gauri Sarovar, in which 4 out of 7 people on board were saved while three people died on the spot.
