Digvijaya Singh donates Rs 1.11 lakh for Ram Temple

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh donated Rs 1.11 lakh for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that Vishva Hindu Parishad makes public the details of funds collected earlier.

Bhopal: Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh on Monday donated Rs 1,11,111 for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

He sent out a cheque of the donation amount to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with a letter asking him to ensure that the fund collection drive is held in a harmonious atmosphere.

"As I don’t have information about to which bank the money is to be donated, I am sending to you a cheque of Rs 1,11,111 in favour of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust as my contribution for the Ram Temple construction," Singh wrote in the letter to the PM.

Singh further mentioned that while the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has started the 44-day long Ram temple fundraising campaign across the country from January 15, some other organisations have already been collecting donations for the temple through rallies carrying weapons and raising inflammatory slogans.

"Carrying weapons and raising inflammatory slogans to incite a particular community cannot ever be a part of any religious ceremony, at least such developments cannot be part of the Hindu religion. Due to such developments, three untoward incidents have already happened in Madhya Pradesh, which has damaged the social fabric of the society," he wrote.

Singh further urged the Prime Minister to forbid organisations that are using violent means to collect funds and instruct all states to ensure that such incidents do not take place.

He also urged the PM to direct the VHP to make public the records of all donations collected in the past and present for the construction of Ram Temple.
