Indore:Despite being under strict curfew since late March, Indore has acquired the dubious distinction of recording a very high coronavirus mortality rate. Five more deaths were reported recently in the state, increasing the number of fatalities to 85.

As the corona testing kits, which are used to examine corona patients is about to end, the testing process of the hospitals has been affected.

According to reports, the RNA extraction machine is used to detect corona infection in any patient. At present, there are four such machines are available in the Virology Lab of Indore Medical College.

According to the Divisional Commissioner, Akash Tripathi, now the testing is being done through the automatic extraction machine as the kit which is used to know the test report has been exhausted from the stock.

While the outbreak, the rapidly rising number of infections, and the resultant deaths are the staple of almost all conversations here, Indore Divisional Commissioner Akash Tripathi defended the administration over its handling of the health crisis in Madhya Pradesh's commercial capital.

"Indore administration has informed the government about the shortage of kits, it is being hoped that if the availability of the kits becomes available, as many as 630 people can be tested daily from the five machines located in Indore," Tripathy said.

"Only 60 samples are being tested at a time with the five RNA extraction machines, while the number of patients is several times compared to the tests. In Indore, there are only 586 number of testing kits available. If they will be used soon then there will be no machines left in the city," Tripathy added.

Due to lack of corona test kit in government hospitals of the state, now the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government has authorized 3 private labs for corona examination.
