Vidisha (Madhya Pradesh): In a case of bewildering negligence by the staff of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College in Vidisha, a patient who is alive, was declared dead twice. Adding to the chaos, the relatives of the patient were shocked when they were handed the dead body of another person. This is the shocking ordeal of Gorelal Kauri, a resident of Sultania who had tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Gorelal was admitted to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College for treatment after being tested positive for the coronavirus. He was declared critical late at night on the day of his hospitalisation. Later on April 13, he was declared dead. However, by the time relatives reached the hospital, they were told that the patient was still breathing.

Again, the next day on April 14 at 8:30 am, the relatives received a call from the doctor saying that Gorelal had died. However, when the deceased's son insisted to see the body of the father, it was found that it was someone else's body that was being handed over to them. Following an investigation by the hospital authorities, it was found out that Gorelal was still alive, but as his condition was critical, he was shifted to the isolation ward.

Sunil Nandeshwar, Dean of the Medical College said that due to increased corona cases there has been a lot of confusion. Actually, Gorelal was put on a ventilator, as he was facing severe trouble to breathe and at a point in time his pulse stopped, it was then that the nurse mistakenly declared him dead. Immediately, one of the doctors nearby tried to resuscitate Gorelal using the CPR technique, which usually takes around one to two hours.

Following the efforts by doctors, Gorelal's pulse was restored and he was immediately put back on the ventilator.
