Madhya Pradesh borewell tragedy: 7-yr-old boy pulled out after 24 hours declared dead by doctors Vidisha: A 7-year-old boy who fell into the borewell while being chased by monkeys reportedly died in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha district, on Wednesday, officials said. The boy was pulled out by the officials after a marathon efforts of over 24 hours by Wednesday noon, they said.
The boy was rushed to a government hospital in the district in an ambulance which was kept on standby near the accident site. However, the doctors declared the boy dead on arrival, the officials said. The body will be handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said he was saddened by the death of Lokesh. He could not be saved even after our tireless efforts. I pray to God to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members to bear this loss, he said. He said the government will stand with the bereaved family in the critical hour of grief.
He also announced a financial assistance of ₹ 4 lakh to be awarded to the kin of the deceased. The CM said appropriate action will be taken against the culprits involved so that such incidents can be stopped in future. The CM also thanked the NDRF and SDRF teams and the local administration workers who were involved in the rescue operation for their best efforts to rescue the child.
Home Minister Narottam Mishra earlier said the operation to rescue the child was delayed as the ground they were working on was hard and rocky. We are continuously monitoring the rescue operation. We are hopeful that the boy will be rescued in the next two hours, he said earlier.

The incident took place in Lateri Tehsil of the district. The boy was stuck at a depth of 43 feet and a parallel pit of 35 feet has been dug with the help of earthmovers to pull the boy out until Tuesday night. A joint-operation involving the district administration, police, and State Disaster Management Authority officials was launched soon after the receipt of information, official sources said.
District Collector Umashankar Bhargava along with Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Harshal Chaudhary visited the spot and took stock of the situation and the rescue efforts. Giving details about the incident, Umashankar said the seven-year-old boy Lokesh fell into the pit around 11 am on Tuesday.
Lokesh was playing in the fields when suddenly a troop of monkeys came. Lokesh along with his siblings started running. While running, Lokesh fell into a two-feet wide and 60-feet deep borewell. Officials said oxygen was made available to the child with the help of a pipe. A parallel pit was dug to rescue the child. At least five JCB machines have been pressed into service for the rescue operation. Unfortunately, the efforts to rescue the child ended up as a pipe dream.
