Rewa (Madhya Pradesh): Charges have been framed against 40 accused persons in connection with the multi-crore Bansagar scam in Madhya Pradesh.
According to reports, the then Chief Engineer, Supervising Engineer, the executive engineers and the operator of the firm which provided supplies are among the 40 accused.
Following the initial investigation when the scam first came to light, it was reportedly found that fraud of around Rs 214 crore had been committed in the acquiring of stationery goods. However, when the case was registered in 2008, and the Economic Offences Wing, Jabalpur began investigating the matter, the level of the scam was raised to Rs 1,250 crore.
In the year 2008, an FIR was registered in connection with the Bansagar project, a joint project of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. According to the public prosecution, the scam amounts to over Rs 1250 crore.
Anju Pandey, Public Prosecution Officer, District Court, informed that while hearing the challan presented before a special court in 2012, Special Judge Girish Dixit's court on Friday framed charges against 12 public servants, 28 suppliers and firm operators.
