Bhopal:Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, ordered a magisterial probe into the Bhopal boat tragedy that claimed lives of 11 people on Friday.

"We have decided to increase the compensation for families of deceased to Rs 11 lakh. Orders for the magisterial inquiry have been given," he said.

Former BJP MP from Bhopal, Alok Sanjar on Thursday visited the incident spot at Khatlapura Ghat and termed the mishap as a result of district administration's carelessness.

"This incident is extremely saddening. This is a result of the district administration's carelessness. Nobody was there at the spot to check and stop 20-20 people riding on one boat. The administration people should have stopped them from doing that," said Sanjar.

"Such incidents occur almost every year but we do not learn any lesson from these mishaps. District administration people should have been deployed here last night. There were no life jackets and safety arrangements here, which highlights the level of carelessness," he added.

The incident happened after a boat capsized during Ganpati idols immersion at the city's Khatlapura Ghat on Friday morning.

Kamal Nath also ensured strict action against those found responsible for the incident.

The officials have, so far, recovered 11 bodies so and a search is on to locate those missing.
