Bhopal: Man held on leash, forced to bark like a dog; 3 booked under NSA, their houses demolished Bhopal: A young man was put on a leash and forced to bark and behave like a dog by three people with video of the act gone viral on social media triggering. Following the outrage over the video, police arrested the accused trio in no time, and invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against them with the administration also demolishing their "illegally built" houses.
The case was registered against the three individuals at the Tila Jamalpura police station. The incident came to light when a video capturing the assault went viral on various social media platforms, prompting swift action from the authorities.
State Home Minister Narottam Mishra said the NSA has been invoked against the group of men. Talking to reporters, Mishra said he received information about a video of the incident this morning and he had directed the police to act within 24 hours. In six hours, the police identified the accused and nabbed them, he said, adding that a police station in-charge has been removed from field duty in connection with the incident.
The stringent NSA has been invoked against the accused, and the illegally constructed structures belonging to them have been identified and they will be razed, the minister said. He further said that provisions of the Freedom of Religion Act were also invoked against the accused after a religious conversion angle came to light in the case.
Earlier, Mishra had directed the Bhopal Police Commissioner to take immediate action within 24 hours, which prompted the victim to approach the police station and file a formal complaint. Following it, police arrested the accused Sameer, Sajid, and Faizan. The local administration in the presence of police demolished the residence of Sameer and is expected to follow suit for the other two accused.
The video circulating on social media displayed the act of hooliganism, where the young man was coerced into offering an apology in a demeaning manner. The three individuals involved, identified as Sameer, Sajid, and Faizan, proceeded to place a noose around the victim's neck, treating him like an animal. Armed with a belt, the culprits even threatened the young man's life.
At the end of the 49-second video, the victim is also heard saying main Miyan Bhai banne ko taiyar hoon(I am ready to become Miyan Bhai, a term used for Muslims in Bhopal). The accused are also heard asking why the victim had used abusive language against them and demand that he apologise.
Further investigation revealed that Sameer, Sajid, and Faizan had physically assaulted Vijay in the area and filmed the incident, subsequently sharing it on social media platforms. However, complications arose regarding which police station had jurisdiction over Vijay's complaint, as the incident apparently occurred within the Gautam Nagar police station's jurisdiction. To resolve this issue, the Home Minister instructed the case to be registered at the Tila Jamalpura police station, and the relevant details would be shared with the Gautam Nagar police station. The incident was considered a heinous act of open hooliganism, intended to create fear and unrest among the public.
