Bhopal:Four children were killed and two others injured after a mound of mud caved-in at Barkhedi village under Sukhi Sevania police limits in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal district on Monday.
According to sources, the incident took place this when seven children of the same village were digging out mud from ground near a canal.
Suddenly, the heap of mud caved in on them and they were buried under the mud. Four children died and two were injured while another child managed to come out safely, sources said.
On being informed, locals immediately launched a rescue operation and were brought out from the mud heap.
By the time villagers initiated rescue work, four of them had died. Later, their bodies were taken out from the debris and sent for post-mortem.
"The injured children have been admitted to the Hamidia hospital at Bhopal where their condition is stated to be stable. Six children trapped inside the mud and though they were rescued, four of them were declared brought dead at a hospital," said Avinash Lavania, Collector, Bhopal.
"The district administration has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs to each of the four deceased children. The children were in the age group of 7-9years," the Collector said.
