Thiruvananthapuram:Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday described the international deep water multipurpose seaport at Vizhinjam as a "game-changer" for the state's infrastructure and development and said it aimed to handle one million containers annually, surpassing even Singapore. In a social media post, he said the inaugural vessel 'Zhen Hua 15' is set to dock at Vizhinjam port on October 15.
Boasting container transhipment capabilities and proximity to major shipping routes, it's a game-changer for Kerala's infrastructure and development, he said. "Vizhinjam Port aims to handle one million containers annually, surpassing even Singapore. This remarkable project is poised to attract investments and create numerous job opportunities, further contributing to the nation's
pride and progress. #VizhinjamPort," the CM said in a post on his 'X' handle.
Vijayan also shared a brief video of the port along with the post. The CM's social media post came amid preparations of the state government to officially welcome 'Zhen Hua 15', the first ship which arrived at the port on Thursday. The vessel, that arrived carrying cranes from China, was given a water salute by the tug boats which pulled the vessel into the Rs 7,700 crore deep-water international port.
