TN DGP visits shootout spot, police release CCTV visuals

A Special Sub-inspector of Tamil Nadu police, stationed at Kerala-Tamil Nadu check-post, was shot dead by masked assailants on Wednesday night. Tamil Nadu police have released the photographs of the suspected murderers. Wilson, the officer later succumbed to his injuries.

Kanniyakumari:Tamil Nadu DGP JK Tripathy visited Kanniyakumari to take stock of the shootout in which a special Sub Inspector Wilson (57), was killed on Wednesday night at the interstate border check post at Padanthalumoodu.

Following a briefing by the top brass, Tripathi paid respects to the departed and visited the family of the bereaved as well.

Earlier, state police have identified the suspects involved in the firing with the help of CCTV footage obtained from the vicinity of the crime scene.

They have also released the images of the two identified suspect-duo.

The duo was linked to the arrest of a trio in Bengaluru by the Q branch(internal security) unit of Tamil Nadu Police on Wednesday.

In connection with an ISIS terror module case, the National Investigation Agency has visited the houses of these two terror suspects in Kanniyakumari and have carried out investigations last month.

South zone IG Shanmuga Rajeshwaran and Tirunelveli DIG Praveen Kumar carried out spot investigations besides consoling the family of the bereaved.

While the entire district is put on high alert to nab the suspects at large, Kanyakumari District SP Srinath has set up three special teams to crack the case.

On Wednesday night, Wilson was manning the check post when the duo opened firing. Investigations revealed the duo has come in a Scorpio car which they pulled over near Padanthalumoodu.

While the two alighted from the car and went to the check post, the car suspected to be a get-away vehicle vanished.

The duo both wearing skull caps opened three rounds at him at 10 pm and scooted away from the spot.

Colleagues of Wilson who got whiff of the incident rushed him to a private hospital where he could not be resuscitated and the body was moved to Aasaripallam government hospital for postmortem.

Wilson is survived by his wife, two children.
