PM should condemn China publicly for incursions: Congress

The Congress on Saturday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to publicly condemn China for its "brazen incursions" into Indian territory and urged the government to take "strong and quick action" to resolve the Line of Actual Control (LAC) issue. Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said at a virtual press conference that the prime minister should address the nation and promise that anyone capturing Indian territory would be pushed back.

New Delhi: Amid the border tensions steering up at Ladakh border, Congress on Saturday, attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the conflicting statements on the status along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), demanding him to condemn the Chinese intrusions.

"Prime Minister must clear the air and condemn these brazen Chinese transgressions. He should come openly, we will support the government," said Congress senior leader Kapil Sibal, during a virtual press conference.

He cited Indian Ambassador statement to PTI that India should de-escalate and disengage by "moving back to its side of LAC".

He also showed satellite imageries to claim that Chinese have intruded into several places in Indian territory.

"PM in all-party meeting said that no intruders had entered Indian territory and neither was any Indian post occupied. His statement is being used by China. Because of his inconsistent statements, PM's status is in danger of being diminished," said Sibal.

"There should not be any question when PM speaks. His statement is inconsistent with the facts on ground. What was the reason that he gave such statement? Was it because he was afraid that people would think that he could not protect India's integrity?," he further added,

He claimed that China has intruded 18 km into the Indian territory across the LAC in Depsang and just 25 km away from the DBO airstrip putting it within the artillery range.

When asked about BJP's accusations on Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, the Congress leader replied, "China does not have its occupancy over Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, but it has surely occupied some of the Indian land. So PM should take care of that and leave other issues for the people to understand. These are all diversionary tactics of BJP."
