Operation Eagle Watch uncovers irregularities in govt-aided schools

After receiving numerous complaints that the institutions were extorting money, the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau (VACB) in Kerala conducted raids at 45 government aided schools and 15 public education department offices across the state as part of the 'Operation Eagle Watch'.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a massive crackdown on financial irregularities, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) in Kerala conducted raids at 45 government aided schools and 15 public education department offices across the state on Tuesday.

After receiving numerous complaints that the institutions were extorting money from the parents of the students during admissions, the VACB raided the schools as part of the 'Operation Eagle Watch'.

During the raid on Muhammadiya Higher Secondary School in Alappuzha, a total amount of unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 3.17 lakh was seized.

The VACB revealed that GBHSS in Thiruvalla had demanded an additional amount of Rs 1,000 from students other than the Rs 500 it took for the PTA fund.

Raids also revealed that Rs 40,000 was extorted from parents in the name of setting up a smart class at the LMMS Higher Secondary School in Vattapara.

Further, Rs 1 lakh was also seized during raids conducted by the Malappuram region subordinate office.

The VACB also found out that large amounts of money were being demanded recruitment in various schools.
