Known for its quality and reputation in the state and the world, the making of traditional saree is being revived with weavers using the warp and weft to turn the thread into fabric.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Prabhakaran, a weaver claimed that demand and the reputation it enjoys is due to its specific geographical origin.

"People buy the product because of its blend of colours, unique designs and geographical locality," he said.

Kasargod sarees come in a variety of colours and designs and it seems that its charm has overturned the effects of the economic slowdown in the state. The saree is also known to represent the place and its heritage.

During Onam, the Kasargod Weaver's Cooperative Society struggles to meet the market demand. The Society established in 1938, has been making the saree for over 70 years now. The buyers also claim that Saree usually has a long life and lasts up to 15-20 years.

Besides, the traditional product is sold at the Malabar Onam Exhibition with 20% government rebate to attract more buyers and sustain the art. The Weaver's Cooperative Society is also looking to bring in innovative designs to attract more demand during the time of major festivities.
