Idukki:The cops at the Kambammettu Police station, in Idukki district of Kerala, were a bit perplexed when they saw an old man walking into the station with a pack of chocolates. Initially, the policemen thought that it could be some programme as part of the election campaigning as the local body elections are on in Kerala in a phased manner.
But it was not. As soon as the cops realised that it was the nonagenarian’s birthday and he was distributing sweets in the police station and all government offices in the vicinity, they decided not to leave him empty-handed. The Police personnel joined in celebrating his birthday and shared the happiness, by cutting a birthday cake and serving a Kerala feast for Kalarikkal Cheriyan Joseph, the nonagenarian.
It was the 90 th birthday of Kalarikkal Cheriyan Joseph, fondly called ‘Kunjettan’ by the locals at Kambammettu. Kunjettan did not have any birthday celebration or gathering at home owing to the COVID situation. However, in the absence of any elaborate celebrations, Kunjettan decided to distribute ‘the sweetness of his 90 th birthday’ to the staff at the Government offices and the Police station in the vicinity, in person.
