Mini robot 'Rail Mitra' to serve COVID patients in Thiruvananthapuram railway station

A mini robot called 'Rail Mitra' has been developed by a junior engineer, R. Nidheej, of the Signal Section of Railway Division here, to ensure supply of food and water to the patients in quarantine. In order to ensure social distancing among railway workers, Nidheej also designed a special helmet with an alarm that reminds them of the same.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): In an attempt to support the COVID-19 fight, Nidheej, junior engineer, Signal Section of Railway Division, Thiruvananthapuram has developed a mini robot called 'Rail Mitra'.

This robot will supply food and water to patients staying in quarantine. The robot can be controlled from a distance of 500 meters by remote control or by using a mobile phone.

Rail Mitra also includes a sensor-operated hand sanitizer and disinfectant chamber.

The robot also has a 360-degree IP camera and a nuclear detonation system to communicate with COVID patients.

The main purpose of the mini robot is to prevent spreading of the virus to health workers and helpers who come in close contact with the patients.

In order to ensure social distancing among railway workers, Nidheej also designed a special helmet with an alarm that reminds them of the same. It will resonate an alarm when they flout social distancing. This mechanism will be used in railway workshops.

A hand sanitizer with sensor will be used at Ernakulam Junction Railway Station. The robot was originally scheduled to be used at the railway's COVID Hospital.
