Mahatma's assassination depicted on the front cover of Kerala's budget document

Kerala's budget presentation began with anti-CAA remarks put forth by the state's Finance Minister Thomas Isaac. He also supported the act of featuring a Malayalam artist's painting of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination on the front cover of the budget document.

Thiruvananthapuram:A fresh controversy erupted as a Malayalam artist's painting of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination was featured on the front cover of Kerala's budget document.

Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, who began his budget presentation with anti-CAA remarks, termed it as a 'political statement' and asserted that they were sending out a message that they will not forget who murdered Gandhiji.

"This is important, at the times, when history is being re-written. There is an attempt to erase some popular memories and use National Register of Citizens (NRC) to divide the population into communal lines. Kerala will stand united," remarked, while speaking to the reporters.

Earlier, Isaac presented the fifth budget of the CPI(M)-led LDF government for 2020-21 fiscal by making remarks against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the unanimous resolution passed by the state assembly against it.

Stating the amended act was posing a threat to the basic credentials of the Constitution, he said the country was witnessing the biggest protests ever in the post-Independence era.
