Eranakulam (Kerala): M Sivasankar, the former principal secretary to the chief minister of Kerala, was remanded in the Dollar smuggling case. Shivshankar was remanded in custody till October 9 by Eranakulam ACJM court, on charges of financial crimes, following a customs application.

He was produced in court through video conferencing.

Sivasankar has, however, applied for bail in the case and claimed that the investigating agency had not received any direct evidence against him from the interrogation of other accused and witnesses in the dollar smuggling case.

There is no conclusive evidence other than some suspicion based on the disclosure of the other accused, he added. Sivasankar also argued that, even after questioning all the accused in detail, no documents were found against him in the dollar smuggling case.

Shivshankar said in his bail application that he has so far fully cooperated with the investigation and the High Court itself had made this clear. The bail request of M. Sivasankar will be heard by the ACJM court on February 1.
